In preparation for the European Year of Volunteers, our research group - supported by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour - is examining the motivation of Hungarian volunteers.
The main aim of the research is to adapt the 2004 Volunteer Motivation Inventory (Esmond-Dunlop, 2004) to Hungary, and thus create and standardise on a large sample (n = 2500) a Hungarian Volunteer Motivation Questionnaire capable of measuring volunteer motivations accurately and reliably. This would provide organisations employing volunteers with a tool to use in their day-to-day practices in ensuring recruitment, placement and retention of volunteers. Our motto is "research for the practice".
Another aim of the half-year study is to create the Hungarian Volunteer Motivation Index, both generally and by activity areas, and thereby enable a new and differentiated - primarily, activity-centric - approach in Hungarian volunteer motivation research.
We ask the cooperation, assistance and participation of non-profit organisations and their volunteers.
